Fall is here! Well, sort of… the calendar says it’s fall anyway! The holidays are just around the corner, and events for the season are starting to take shape, so there’s plenty of prepping to do to get ready for the busyness to come.

Prepping the House Before the Madness

When the holidays start peeking around the corner, it’s easy to put them off and just hope for the best, but a little bit of prep will make life a lot easier in the months to come. This is especially important if you have kids at home. As the school year ramps up, activities start to get serious, and homework piles to the ceiling, you’ll be glad you took care of the lower-priority stuff now.

Remember, you’re not the only one who’s putting things off. You don’t want to have to deal with all the procrastinators all at once, now do you?

Start by getting all the decorations you can for every holiday. Most stores will already be stocked full of stuff for Halloween, but if your favorite Big Box isn’t carrying Thanksgiving or Christmas stuff just yet, do your shopping online — you’ll thank yourself down the road.

Once you’ve got your decorations squared away, consider buying any gifts/presents/treats that you can now.

Deals happen all throughout the year, and if you already know what someone wants, there’s no reason to wait — in most cases, the “deals” you see during Black Friday and the days before Christmas aren’t much better than the average deal you can get right now.

In fact, those “markdowns” you see are often applied after a recently implemented markup, so they’re actually not much in the way of savings now.

Many gifts aren’t going to change between now and Christmas, but many will fly right off the shelves. If you’re trying to stay budget-friendly, even buying a couple now can save you a headache down the road.

Finally, take care of any big-ticket cleaning chores now, the kind of stuff that won’t be fun while trying to shuttle kids between event after event, with too much homework crammed in between. And now that the weather is (sort of!) cooperating, you can get some of the yardwork done that you’ve put off all summer before the fall storms start to get serious.

If you’re in Denton, you better be a UNT fan! Football is the name of the game throughout the fall, and tickets can sell out faster than you think — grab them now so that you can be sure you get to all the popular games with the big schools.

But hey, this is Denton — there’s so much more to do in the fall than watch a little football! And those events are at least as popular, if not way more popular.

We just wrapped up the iconic Denton Arts & Jazz festival but there’s still even more fun to come this month…

For example, the Day of the Dead festival in October is something you absolutely don’t want to miss. Watching people fly down a hill in homemade Coffin Cars is an experience, to say the least! And if you’re feeling adventurous, now is the time to start building your own!
